🇨🇺 Bienvenidos a Cuba! 🏝️
After taking the inaugural SWOOP flight from YYZ to VRA, I am so happy to announce that Canadians now have an exceptionally easy way to escape to the Cuban sun. SWOOP is the only low-cost carrier now flying unbundled, directly to Cuba. With flights at only $159 one way and round trips scheduled three times a week, you no longer need to bundle your flight with a hotel stay. SWOOP makes it easy and cost effective to fly to 13 destinations out of Toronto Pearson, nine of which are south to the Caribbean and Mexico. What are you waiting for? Book your getaway now at

During our trip we stayed at the Melia Hotels Varadero International on the LEVEL floor. It was seriously, next level. Adults-only with great bars and a separate, more intimate lobby (the whole hotel is 900+ rooms). My room came complete with slippers, robes, good toiletries, mood lighting and dual rain showers. I was very happy and impressed with the rooms at this hotel.
We visited the Spanish colonial city of Havana on our first day out on the town. From Ernest Hemingway to Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, the history in Cuba will captivate you. I also really enjoyed the food and art scene in Havana. I still have one of their national ballet shows on my bucket list.
A highlight of the trop was a visit to Matanzas! A picture-perfect day filled with adventure out on the water, my favourite meal of the trip and so many cultural discoveries. Ecotur hosted us and I can’t wait for our next adventure with them.
A totally unforgettable part of our trip was discovering the Botica Francesa Dr. E. Triolet in Matanzas. We stepped back in time entering the perfectly preserved apothecary from 1882. Definitely my favourite museum I’ve ever explored. At only $3 US to enter, it is a must when you visit Cuba!
On our last day in Varadero, it was unfortunately too cold and choppy for a catamaran cruise so we visited the Parque Nacional Ciénaga de Zapata. I love a good croc (but not on my feet!) and our day trip was topped off with a delicious lunch and dip into the sea.
