I used to be a huge fan of hyaluronic acid in my nighttime skin care routine back when it took the skincare market by a storm back in 2014. I even wrote about it in this post where I reviewed a bunch of my favorite night moisturizers. As a combination-skin girl, I was an early believer in "HA" because of its incredible ability to provide hydration and plumpness to the skin. Over the winter I always move more towards oils, acids and thick balms to keep my skin soft, but this summer I tried to lighten things up to avoid those pore-clogging creams. Welcome, Vichy Mineral 89 and AVON's Hydra Fusion Serum, two clear gels that make my skin look like a fresh bouncy ball.
Let's compare the two to see how they stack up:
Minéral 89 Fortifying & Hydrating Daily Skin Booster With Hyaluronic Acid $49.95
This refreshing serum is composed of high-dose Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water and natural origin hyaluronic acid to strengthen skin’s barrier function.Ingredients:
Aqua, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Peg/Ppg/Polybutylene Glycol-8/5/3 Glycerin, Methyl Gluceth-20, Citric Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Carbomer, Biosaccharide Gum-1.
Anew Hydra Fusion Serum $29.99
Use this jelly-like serum after cleansing a.m./p.m.or use as needed to spot treat dry areas. Hyaluronic acid acts like a sponge by holding up to 1000 times its weight in water for lasting hydration. It's also ideal for someone wanting overall deep hydration or a spot treatment for extra-dry areas, even elbows!
Ingredients:
Water/Eau; Glycerin; Pentylene Glycol; Propanediol; Sd Alcohol 40-B; Sodium Hyaluronate; Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract; Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid; Phenoxyethanol; Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil; Ppg-26-Buteth-26; Methylparaben; Fragrance/Parfum; Trioxaundecanedioic Acid; Disodium Edta; Sodium Hydroxide; Sodium Citrate; Arginine; Citric Acid; Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer; Propylene Glycol.Verdict:
These are definitely very similar products, and the Vichy version has less ingredients, and no parabens. The Avon serum will run you less money, so it could be a great option for those who are on a tighter budget. The Avon packaging is a little less bulky too, but they are both in glass bottles. Overall, a staple in my morning beauty routine right now - for sure.
