Laser Hair Removal for Light Hair? | WIN Free Laser at The Ten Spot Queen St. West, Toronto

The Ten Spot Queen West

Back in the fall, my colleagues convinced me that I needed to try laser hair removal at The Ten Spot's 749 Queen St W location. I feel like us women and men with thin, light hair might not be aware of The Ten Spot's laser expertise, so I'm happy to share my experience with their services thus far.

I've been hesitant to try laser since my skin is fair, and my hair is mostly blonde and fine. Judging by all of the positive reviews from my friends, I knew that their Palomar Vectus Diode Laser would be able to target my hair (and there's an abundance of it) with SKINTEL™ technology. This machine allows my technician to measure the pigmentation in the skin before measuring the pigment content of my hair. The Ten Spot's laser treatments have opened up the playing field for women of all skin colours, hair colours and ages to have laser. The only hair colour it doesn't work as well on is grey.

Here's what it looks like to go for laser treatment at the Queen Street West location:

Since November 2018, I have had 5 treatments of underarm and bikini, and 4 treatments of half-leg. My hair growth has been reduced to about 25% of the original amount, and it is very thin with little to no ingrown hairs. My main concern before was the itching, ingrown hairs and redness that I experienced with shaving and waxing. Now, I can go without shaving for weeks at a time, and the hair growth is barely detectable.

Note that unlike waxing, it is essential to shave before getting laser. I swear by the Schick Intuition FAB razor since it doesn't give me cuts, can be used in a "back and forth" method for efficiency, and gives a close shave on my sensitive skin. Best of all, I never get razor burn.

Regarding pain, the first 1-2 rounds of laser do not hurt much for those with a relatively high pain tolerance. Around my ankles/bones, the most "innervated" areas, the laser can feel like a hot needle entering your skin. You know what it feels like to get a flu shot? Just like that, but as if the needle is on fire. Eep. Luckily two advils popped 30 mins before my treatment can help dull the pain and will heavily reduce any redness around the follicles. I purchased a lidocaine cream from my pharmacy for my next visit, and you can also buy it at The Ten Spot for topical numbing.

I highly recommend trying out life on laser at The Ten Spot, especially given their convenient locations around the city. Have you ever tried laser?

xx
