There's no doubt about it, winter is just around the corner. I like to stay cozy and warm at this time of year by wearing warm scarves and knit sweaters. In addition to dressing up, I love wearing makeup and perfume to boost my mood when the weather turns frightful. Here are 4 fragrances, 3 for women and 1 for men, that I would highly recommend trying out this season.
BVLGARI Man Wood Essence
The philosophy of the new men's fragrance from BVLGARI is based on the balance between the urban life of a modern man and the call of nature. Bvlgari Man Wood Essence combines an accord of woods – wood barks, resins and essences – mixed with spicy notes. Italian citrus zest along with coriander leaf gives a fresh, green character in the opening, leading to an intense woody cypress, vetiver and cedar accord based on benzoin resins.
I was a very fortunate guest at Dave Lackie's Bvlgari Elegance event earlier this summer, where I was able to explore two fragrances from the brand. I made sure to spritz some of this men's cologne onto my wrist, and was surprised by how wearable it is - even for women! I picked up on the sweet, citrus sugar notes with underlying cedar and cypress. It's woodsy, fresh and delicious. Great for pairing with a collared shirt or tailored suit. Lasting power is medium.
BVLGARI Goldea The Roman Night Absolute
Goldea The Roman Night Absolute "evokes the desire to live a passionate night in the Eternal City: Rome…After dark, lights out." The fragrance is described as embodiment of sensuality, unpredictability and casual spontaneity. Top notes: liquorous black plum, sensual orange blossom. Heart: majestic jasmine sambac absolute, addictive Madagascar vanilla. Base: intoxicating patchouli, captivating black musk, modern crystal moss.
I was so excited to try this brand new fragrance at the event, especially after hearing about the extraordinary thought that goes into the bottle design. It wears very easily and I pick up on the plum, vanilla and musk notes throughout the day. This is an outstanding fruity and floral fragrance that you can wear for a night out in the cooler months. It is not irritating and wears off well as the day progresses. Lasting power is moderate.

ELIZABETH ARDEN My Fifth Avenue
This fragrant celebration of a woman’s rightful ambition and limitless possibilities embodies the energy, culture and sights that are quintessentially Fifth Avenue. An invigorating floral, it blends citrus notes, musks and wood notes for a fragrant reminder of the sparkling scent of success. Embrace the possibilities.
It seems as if there's a trend with floral, woody fragrance for both men and women this year! Launched in 2018, Elizabeth Arden My Fifth Avenue shows it's colours with notes of lemon, mandarin orange, jasmine, pear and rose. Underlying you'll notice musk, amberwood and cedar. This fresh, water-like scent is amazing for daily wear, and will surely transport you to the bustling streets of NYC. Lasting power is good.
JUICY COUTURE OUI
Get hooked right from the start with the tart freshness from a fusion of watermelon and lemon in a special water lemon note. The chic sophistication of jasmine absolute paired with provocative wild tuberose creates an iconic duo, while a modern sense of addiction is born through sleek techno woods. Just say OUI to addictive energy and movement that don’t stop.
OUI by Juicy is fun and fruity like their original Viva La Juicy fragrances, but they’ve really stepped it up a notch with a “fashion” touch. I pick up on the amber and pear notes, reminiscent of my OG Vera Wang Princess (tuberose, amber, woodsy and fruity). Also how fabulous is this bottle design? Totally brings me back to Emma Stone's Thakoon two-piece dress.
I smell the acai berries in this perfume, much like the sweet cranberry products from The Body Shop's holiday collection. It can definitely pull more sensual and warm, but it's playful at the same time - not at all “grandma”. You’ll want to pair this one with a cute dress and scoop of ice cream! Lasting power is medium-light.
