Countless beauty icons have come from Australia: Becca, Jurlique, Aesop, Lucas' Papaw Ointment, Lanolips, Kora Organics, the list goes on. One of those wonders from down under is Dr Roebuck's Skincare.
At their summer launch earlier in 2016, we enjoyed teeny taco salads and delicious cold-pressed juice while learning about the wholesome philosophy surrounding Dr Roebuck's brand. Their Skin Diets are awesome, providing you with tailored meal ideas for your skin type. I'm totally on board with my oily skin recommendations:
Available in Australia, Canada and the US, Dr Roebuck's motto is:
"Minimal ingredients, maximum results."I've experienced mostly positive results from these products, though some aren't worth the price tag given my entry-level lifestyle. The Globe and Mail recently did a feature on the brand here.
PURE Ultra Moisturizer $54.95
First developed in Sydney in 1978 by their physician parents, Dr Roebuck’s PURE was created as a natural and effective treatment for the Eczema of identical twins Kim and Zoe Roebuck. The balm-like texture instantly replenishes your skin's hydration levels by locking in moisture, naturally. 10/10
FACE Anti-Aging Moisturizer $59.95
FACE re-hydrates tired skin and reduces wrinkles using a potent blend of nourishing ingredients. Right off the bat, I'll admit that the packaging is horrid. This tub is hard to open, it's unhygienic to keep dipping in fingers, and the texture is quite gloopy. (Read: does not travel well. Not even from the shelf to your moisturized hands.) When layered over the Ultimate Hydrating Serum, this combo is intensely hydrating. The sticky texture feels a touch heavy on my sensitive/combo skin, though I find it works similar to a "sleeping pack" where it'll lock in moisture overnight, then you'll rinse off the residue in the morning. 7/10Ultimate Hydrating Serum $79.95
The Ultimate Hydrating Serum is a concentrated serum of active ingredients to boost your skin for maximum hydration. This unique serum combines the power our proprietary CNYouth Molecule with natural occurring antioxidants. This formulation results in not only improving your skin's moisture and elasticity, but also replenishes and protects the skin's moisture barrier.Fantastic product. Sinks in so nicely, has a thick and pillowy feel reminiscent of Emu Oil, and provides similar results to the tried and true Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum. The fragrance is a bit lemony, like lemon meringue pie. 10/10
Reverse Aging Serum $79.95
Dr Roebuck's Reverse Aging Serum combines the power of our proprietary CNYouth Molecule MD and proven natural antioxidants to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The serum protects the skin from free radical damage and promotes elasticity. This results in more radiant skin and diminishes the appearance of aging. Both of these serums are very similar. Their ingredient lists are identical, except for a few small additions: the Ultimate Hydrating Serum has Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10), and Reverse Aging has Spilanthes Acmella Flower Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (emollient), Oenothera Biennis Oil (Evening Primrose Oil), and Borago Officinalis Seed Oil (Borage Seed Oil). Therefore, Reverse Aging is just a slightly elevated formula for maturing skin. 10/10
CLEANSE Cleanser $22.95
CLEANSE is a cream product formulated with anti-oxidants to reverse free radical damage, and assist in delaying the aging process. To be honest, I would not recommend the Dr Roebuck's cleansing products, and I would especially steer clear if you have sensitive, combination or oily skin. This cleanser is too emollient, and doesn't eliminate oil and grime like Cetaphil, FROOSH, and Delia Organics. 6/10Natural Cleansing Wipes $15.49 30 Wipes
These face wipes have a very strange smell, possibly due to the natural witch hazel. For me, these wipes are off putting and not efficient at removing makeup. They felt quite dry and the package was not nearly luxe enough for the near $16 price tag. 5/10Polish $39.95
POLISH made my face feel like this: when you're chewing a fresh piece of minty gum, and you take a big swig of cold water. Ouch! The burn of peppermint oil. this is not what my skin (or any skin, for that matter) is asking for. It irritated any acne spots and really encouraged redness. Sensitive skin, use with caution. 5/10Dr Roebuck's skinare is ideal for those with normal to dry skin, especially if you're on the hunt for skincare that is free from "BPA, Parabens, Harmful fillers and chemicals".
